Ethelred the Unready [Ethelred the Unready] BrE NAmE
(c. 969–1016) the king of England from 978–1016. His name ‘the Unready’ comes from an old English word and means that he received bad advice. During his rule the ↑Danes attacked England repeatedly, and after his death the Dane ↑Canute became king of England.
