Shaw·nee 7 [Shawnee Shawnees] BrE [ˈʃɔːniː] NAmE [ˈʃɔːniː] noun (pl. Shaw·neeor Shaw·nees) a member of a Native American people, many of whom now live in the US state of Oklahoma Word Origin: the name in Delaware. Delaware is either of two Algonquian languages (Munsi and Unami), both now extinct. Culture: The Shawnee first settled in the Ohio Valley as farmers who also hunted. ↑Tecumseh tried to unite them to defend their land against white people but failed. The Shawnees were then moved to the ↑Indian Territory.
